It is not always plain sailing in P3!

8th Mar 2024

As part of our toys topic the children were challenged to make a boat from junk art materials that would be able to float on the water and carry a small toy figure.

The class came up with lots of very creative designs and learnt a lot about the best way to attach objects together.

Today it was time to put our hard work to the test. We discussed how to make it a fair test and decided that we should only put two boats in the water tray at a time so that the boats don’t bump into each other. We also agreed that if a boat floated until we counted to twenty then we would count that as a success.

Each creator waited nervously for their turn to see if their boat would manage to stay afloat and we enjoyed the experience. We had lots of successes and a few that were less successful but most importantly when we finished the testing we were able to make a list of features that helped make a boat that would float. Hopefully the children will be able to apply that knowledge to any future builds.

Great work P3!
