Building a shaduf

11th Apr 2016
Building a shaduf

We have been busy learning about the Egyptians in P5 and as part of our topic we have been finding out how they grew food in such a hot country. We learnt that they used a shaduf to get water out of the River Nile which they could then use to water their crops.

Miss West set us the challenge of building a shaduf that could bring water up out of a basin of water just like the Egyptians used the shaduf to bring water out of the Nile.

We had to plan out our design and decide what the best materials to use would be. Then we got to build our design. Sometimes we realised our design could be improved and made changes to our final product.

We tested the shadufs with Mrs Preshur and voted on which team had the best design. The winners were from Table 6, who are Reece, Kenzie Reynolds and Hannah.

We done to everyone for all their great ideas and design skills. We definitely have some builders and engineers of the future in P5.
